tl_files/dragontech/pics/avatar.pngHi, my name is Santiago Radeff

I was born into this world on April 9th, 1975 in the city of Rosario, Argentina. I am very passionate about finding out how things work; my curiosity has led me to learn a little of everything.

My main hobby is computer science, which I've been practicing since I was 8. I also like other activities such as sports.

I attended many courses and seminars, but while I have counted with the support of great people, I still believe that the best way to learn is to remain curious, persevering and self-taught.

Basic Training

I have been a student of various specialties in the most diverse schools.

I spent most of my childhood attending the Dante Alighieri School. I learned some Italian, writing, reading, introduction to carpentry and additional trades.

ENET 3: Some physics, mechanics and automotive electricity, additional carpentry skills, blacksmithing and residential electrical.

ENET 2: Too much theory. I could say that this is where I've been bored trying to learn some basic electronics.

CEDEC: My first steps on a PC within this school with great teachers, I learned to program in the MS-DOS operating system environment, MS Office (Lotus 123, WordStar), advanced programming in Basic, beginning in Cobol.

CAI: A spectacular school, teachers were very knowledgeable in their specialties. Although it had already been time-consuming programming and doing things on my own, I learned a great deal of structured programming and advanced XBase (Clipper mainly). I attended creative workshops and labs and I took my first steps into the world of Unix.

In Professional Training, I learned how to manage Windows NT and 2000 servers enough to end up teaching some courses in the school.

But not everything ends here, I have attended forums on computer security, read an infinite number of publications and participated in some of them. However every day is a new challenge where there are always new things to learn.

Computing and technology

I have been addicted to computer science since 1983 and spend my time reminiscing when I would reach to a Timex Sinclair 2068 with my tiny hands during childhood. This little piece of technology, only 72 kilobytes RAM memory, with no means of storage other than a tape drive and simple Basic software as the programming language was my friend for many years.

Later came a brand-new, although problematic (due to their constant failures), MSX-2. With this small monstrosity I took my first steps into the world of operating systems (MSX-DOS) using a 5.25-inch floppy drive.

The next PC was a gigantic 8 MHz with two floppy disk drives. With this one I could learn to program in Xbase, specifically DBase 3 +.

From that point on, the changes were frequent. Technology began to invade everything and I didn't want to miss out.

Almost three decades have passed since that first contact and yet here I am constantly learning.

One of my favorite areas of computing is in the design and development of websites, which I've been doing for a long time and I am still learning and perfecting my skills daily.

My computer hobbies include programming video games. It is an activity which has led me, along with my brother Nicolás, to create 'Pachi el Marciano' and 'Martian Memory', titles that have been downloaded over 100,000 times.

Sports

I have always been interested in some type of sporting activity. I have been swimming for many years since childhood, some martial arts disciplines (judo and karate), BMX and skateboarding; activities which left me with a severe left knee injury at 16.

Since 2008 I have been in-line skating and besides keeping me in shape, it has allowed me to meet many people while sharing paths with other skaters, with or without the skates.

Every now and then I tend to sign up for gym and exercise fitness classes, but only for one or two year periods at a time.

Trade skills

I am a do-it-yourself kind of guy, from painting, fixing various types of furniture and even major refurbishing. I work roofing, flooring, demolition, wall building, ceilings, electrical and a long list of additional skills that I used in remodeling my own home.

In addition to performing such tasks, I keep busy building and painting full scale and miniature models and mock-ups.

Travel

I like traveling and while not being able to as much as I’d like to, I have travelled plenty and have been able to visit most of tl_files/banderas/argentina.pngArgentina, tl_files/banderas/brasil.pngBrasil, tl_files/banderas/paraguay.pngParaguay, also a few cities in tl_files/banderas/espana.pngSpain and tl_files/banderas/francia.pngFrance.

I do not intend to travel half the planet, but at least visit some beautiful places. In my agenda I still have AlemaniaGermany, tl_files/banderas/italia.pngItaly, tl_files/banderas/portugal.pngPortugal, tl_files/banderas/holanda.pngHolland (Netherlands), tl_files/banderas/finlandia.pngFinland, and tl_files/banderas/grecia.pngGreece among others. I don’t think that it will be too long before I remove some of these places from my list.

Video games

From the first moment that I had some dexterity in my fingers, I knew that computer games were made for me.

My first game was 'Androids', then 'Bugaboo' and hundreds more followed. Many games later in 2003, I remained very active as a leader of GTH, a team of 'Urban Terror' where my objective was first and foremost to have a good time.

While I am over thirty years old, I will always try to find a time to unwind and enjoy a good game.

Literature

I am not a writer, but I do have a lot of imagination.

Little by little, I am writing a book of science fiction stories. I enjoy the literary writings of H.P. Lovecraft and I always have them referenced in my mind as I am about to begin typing.

My first story, La Semilla, was submitted as an entry to the "Cosecha 2010" Revista Eñe magazine contest and has been selected as a finalist among more than 2000 stories submitted from around the world. If you would like to read it, download it by clicking on this link: archivo .pdfLa Semilla
